We had some Unicorn Magic Coffee then went to that store near Ollivanders? Pills, Quills, Potions & Elixirs, I think it was? - Anyhoodle. - They had these magical pills and powders and elixirs and fixers and the guy behind the counter - Derek, was his name - swore they incinerated stubborn fat faster than a witch and a warlock could bedazzle a winged doodiddle. - It sounded too magical to be true but Derek was a Hufflepuff so how bad could he be? So we both dropped a satchel of galleons and bought a cauldron of Derek’s most powerful fat burners. - I tried them all. Every single one. I took them exactly as the instructions said. I even tried the scary looking one from the glass case Derek had to get for us. The Alpha Max XXX Volcano Dragon Power Bull Frog one. - Nothing happened. Nothing. I thought it was working, at first, because I got more energized than a spastic bowtruckle but...nothing. - I just don’t get it. I don’t know what the problem is. I’ve tried every fat burning pill and powder and elixir and fixer but NONE of them work. - What do you think? Should I ask Dumbledore? Lupin? Maybe Fred & George know. - I’ll tell you this much...I know it sounds muggle of me but I’m starting to think these pills and potions don’t actually work. They aren’t as magical as Derek says they are. - I mean, what if it really does just boil down to hard work..patience..consistency. Doing all those things muggles do, like work out 3-5x/week for years and years...eat plenty of fruits, veggies, and lean protein while hitting your calories...get at least 6hrs of sleep every night (ideally more).... - Do you think I should call myself on my bullshit and just put in some hard work rather than wasting my lot in Gringots on these magic potions? .. .. .. REP RANGES 101 💥 collab with @lukeknightspt & @physiotrition 💪🏻 ➖ 🏋️Both high (>15) & low rep training have been shown to be ideal for hypertrophy‼️ However, heavy loads are almost definitely better for improving 1rep max strength and isotonic strength. This is somewhat intuitive though as you are training closer to your 1RM (Schoenfeld et al., 2017)🔥 . 🤔It is postulated that this difference becomes more substantial with training age - i.e. if you want to increase your 1rm strength as an advanced lifter, heavier loads become increasingly more important (most of the studies in this meta analysis were on untrained lifters). (Schoenfeld et al., 2017)🙏 . 🏋🏻‍♀️Low rep training puts a heavy emphasis on technique, whilst form breakdown is quite prevalent amongst high rep ranges. A decrease in the efficacy of one’s technique may lead to decreased activation in the target muscles. However, due to the high intensities of low rep training, there may be a higher risk of injury & greater intra and post workout recovery times😩 . 🤕Both rep ranges can be beneficial towards injury rehab. However, high rep ranges offer a more ideal risk to reward ratio. Cardio or weights? By @syattfitness —— 🦄The fitness industry runs on a pendulum of extremes. Everything is either good or bad. Right or wrong. Healthy or unhealthy. Fattening or fat burning. Issue is, things aren't that black and white. And creating these false dichotomies is what digs us further into fitness "ruts" that are harder and harder to climb out of. - ☕️Cardio is the prime example. For a long time, cardio was *it.* THE thing. Everyone ran or biked or swam or roller skated or flew their brooksticks. Weight lifting was "dangerous," not "functional," and only for meat heads and Slytherins. - 🦄Recently, though, all this changed. Nowadays weight lifting is the end-all-be-all of fitness, whereas cardio is hated on and made fun of. Hell, I see coaches every day bragging about how they don't do any cardio whatsoever - only heavy lifting - and stay shredded year round. - ☕️And that's great. It really is. But there's more to fitness than staying shredded. And just because you don't need to do something to get shredded, doesn't mean it won't help. Nor does it mean there aren't a cauldron full of other benefits. Truth is, both cardio and weights have a ton of benefits, each of which complement the other. - 🦄Between you and me, I don't want to be a one trick pony. Sure, deadlifting 4x my body weight is great. But I also like running a 6min mile. And not getting winded every time I go up a flight of stairs. And, as weird as it sounds, I like finishing a workout out of breath and sweaty and feeling like I just beat the snot out of a mountain troll. - ☕️For me, strategically doing both weights and cardio is the best way to get the best of both worlds. So you can be strong as all hell, and the fittest one in the room.
